«Essi [i confini] muoiono e risorgono, si spostano, si cancellano e riappaiono inaspettati. Segnano l’esperienza, il linguaggio, lo spazio dell’abitare, il corpo con la sua salute e le sue malattie, la psiche con le sue scissioni e i suoi riassestamenti, la politica con la sua spesso assurda cartografia, l’io con la pluralità dei suoi frammenti e le loro faticose ricomposizioni, la società con le sue divisioni, l’economia con le sue invasioni e le sue ritirate, il pensiero con le sue mappe dell’ordine».

BORDER si propone come un progetto in divenire, una rete di persone, associazioni e luoghi, discipline e linguaggi che attraverso una serie di appuntamenti intende esplorare i significati del confine con l’obiettivo di ritrovare al suo epicentro la valorizzazione delle diversità, la socializzazione, la responsabilità sociale, lo scambio interculturale, le pratiche artigiane, altre pratiche del vivere e dell’abitare, la città come territorio di relazioni, e non ultimo, un punto di vista inedito che ribadisca che il confine non è una linea che separa bensì un territorio dove avvengono relazioni, scambi e contaminazioni in termini di arricchimento.
BORDER, di volta in volta, gode della collaborazione di diversi professionisti, artigiani, artisti, musicisti, scrittori, intellettuali, associazioni, che costituiscono una rete di relazioni progettuali, come territorio di confine da cui osservare l’intorno, per essere terra di intrecci d’identità e contaminazioni, che acquisisce e sviluppa, giorno dopo giorno nuove ramificazioni e visioni, sia concretamente nella città in cui Border si situa, sia connettendosi ad altre realtà lontane ma che ne condividono la pratica e gli intenti.
BORDER vuole creare le condizioni per un territorio fertile che favorisca la riflessione e il dialogo, fra le differenti discipline e culture, non ponendosi limiti alle possibili declinazioni del concetto di confine che, come una scatola cinese, offre infinite vie e chiavi di lettura.
Oggetto di studio dell’antropologia, della sociologia dell’architettura, dell’arte, del cinema, della fotografia, della filosofia, della musica, della danza, del teatro e della psichiatria, il tema del confine, ha da sempre destato molto interesse, forse perchè è l’essere umano per primo, ad essere confinato nel proprio corpo, e come tale percepisce il confine a seconda di dove rivolge la fronte, da qui la frontiera, il cui superamento ci rende tutti stranieri. Lo straniamento di fronte a ciò che non si conosce molto spesso viene esorcizzato fabbricando un altro muro ed un altro confine che delimiti e tuteli il conoscibile, quando la vera ricchezza si trova proprio nell’esplorare terre sconosciute che confermano la pluralità, ed il valore delle differenze.
Questo sito rappresentazione diretta del crocevia costituito dalla rete Border, favorisce il viaggio di perlustrazione e conoscenza di tutti i territori, realtà, singoli e associazioni, progetti che sono connessi a questo processo in divenire, rendendoli visibili attraverso la rete informatica che consente il superamento delle distanze e dei confini in tempo reale.
Il sito diviene poi il veicolo d’aggiornamento, d’informazione del programma della manifestazione che nasce dalle relazioni in atto in quello specifico momento.
Mostra i percorsi che BORDER propone attraverso i luoghi fisici nella città-territorio, per raggiungere le tappe che ospitano gli incontri, le mostre, i laboratori, e le rassegne che vivono l’urgenza e la necessità di esprimersi attorno al concetto di confine.

They mark experience, the language of living space, the body with its health and illnesses, the psyche with its divisions and its readjustments, politics with its often absurd cartography; the ‘I’ with the plurality of its fragments and their strenuous reassembling, society and its divisions, the economy with its invasions and its retreats, thought with its ordering maps. BORDER is an evolving project, a network of people, associations and locations, disciplines and languages that intends to explore the meanings of ‘border’ through a series of events and a continuos discussion on the internet, with the aim of discovering at its heart the valorization of diversity, socialization, social responsibility, intercultural exchange, practice craft, other practices of living and dwelling, the city as a territory of relations, and not least, a new point of view; reiterating that the border is not a line that separates but a place where enriching relationships, trade and contamination are formed.
BORDER enjoy the collaboration of various professionals, artisans, artists, musicians, writers, intellectuals, organizations that form a network of working relationships, like a border territory from which to observe the surrounds, existing as a land of tangled identities and contaminations, that day after day acquires and develops new tangents and visions, whether in the city in which it is situated, or connecting itself to other realities which although distant share its practices and intent.
BORDER wants to create the conditions for a fertile environment conducive to reflection and dialogue among different disciplines and cultures, not placing limits on the possible declinations of the concept of ‘border’. Like a Chinese box, it offers infinite ways and keys to reading.
An object of study in anthropology, sociology of architecture, art, cinema, photography, philosophy, music, dance, theater and psychiatry the issue of the border has always attracted a lot interest, perhaps because human beings are in the first instance confined in their own bodies, and as such perceives the border depending on where they face, and from here the border, the crossing of which renders us all foreigners. The estrangement before the unknown is often exorcized by building another wall and another border that defines and protects the knowable, when true wealth is found in exploring unknown lands, stressing plurality and the value of differences.
The site www.border.fotoup.net, live representation of the crossroads of the Border network, facilitates reconnaissance journeys and knowledge of all territories, realities, individuals and organizations, projects that are related to this process in development, making them visible through the computer network that allows the overcoming of distance and boundaries in real time.
The site will then become the vehicle for updates, for information about the discussion on the theme, with particular attention to the national and international initiatives related to it, and about the program of events that Border is going to set up.
The first event proposed by Border is Border-Paths Inside The Concept of Borders: a series of initiatives through the city-territory of Milan, a path touching various points of the town, born from the urgency and the necessity to express the concept of border.
